Frequently asked questions
Renovating is a big decision. Here are clear answers about design, budgeting, timelines, disruption and costs—before you commit.
Yes. We can manage the entire process, from early design and selections to drawings, scope and construction. If you only need design support, we can provide that as a standalone service too.
Start with the structure and building envelope. Foundation, roofing, water issues and anything that protects the home should come before kitchens, bathrooms or decorative finishes. Once the essentials are sound, we can plan the visible upgrades with confidence.
Every renovation creates some disruption, but it should never feel unmanaged. Before work begins, we explain what to expect and how your home will be affected. During construction, one project manager keeps you informed as the schedule moves forward.
Begin with a budget you are comfortable with and keep a contingency for hidden conditions. We generally recommend setting aside approximately 20 percent so an unexpected issue does not force a rushed decision.
The timeline depends on the size and complexity of the project. Once the scope, selections and schedule are confirmed, we set clear expectations and make every effort to meet the agreed timeline without compromising quality.
The right starting point is what you want to change and what you’re comfortable investing. Your layout, finishes and the work your home needs all affect the price. We’ll walk through the space, discuss your priorities and prepare a detailed quote so you can see what’s included and make an informed decision.
You don’t need to figure that out alone. Permit requirements depend on the work you’re planning. We’ll review your project, explain which approvals are needed and how they affect the next steps, so you understand the process before construction begins.
You should know what you’re paying for and when each payment is due. Before you sign, we’ll explain the deposit, payment stages and what each covers. Those terms are set out in your agreement, giving you a clear plan for managing your renovation budget.
Yes. We carry liability insurance and WSIB coverage, and we can provide the relevant documentation before work begins. Our workmanship is also backed by a two-year warranty. We’ll explain what’s covered so you can move forward with confidence.
Often, yes. It depends on which rooms are being renovated and whether essential spaces remain usable. We’ll discuss access, dust, noise and any temporary arrangements before work starts. If staying elsewhere makes more sense for part of the project, we’ll explain when and why so you can plan ahead.
Hidden issues can come to light once work begins. If we find something that affects your project, we’ll explain the issue, your options and any impact on the price or timeline. The work included in your quote remains priced as agreed, and any additional work requires your approval before we proceed.
